Two Belgian women police officers were wounded by a man wielding a machete in the city of Charleroi on Saturday. Officials have said that the attack appeared to be terror related. The attacker who reportedly shouted “Allahu Akhbar,”(“God is great”) was shot by a third officer and later died of his injuries. The attacker subsequently died of his injuries in hospital. One of the female officers was rushed to hospital with severe facial injuries. The police confirmed that both injured officers were ‘out of danger.’ According to initial local media reports, the man was alone when he approached a security check point at the police station. He then took out a machete from a sports bag and lunged at one officer, seriously injuring her on the face before swinging in the direction of another.
